Hi there! I’m Lee, one of the co-founders of Affordable Legal Services. My journey in the legal world started back in 2018 at the University of Law in Leeds, where I graduated in 2022. After that, I dove headfirst into soliciting school, gaining invaluable experience representing clients in court. Alongside this, I worked with my local Citizens Advice service, assisting clients with Universal Credit issues and challenging Personal Independence Payment (PIP) decisions.
Let me tell you about a case that truly ignited my passion for this work. I once helped a soldier who had returned from Afghanistan after surviving a horrific vehicle explosion. The blast tragically killed three of his comrades and left him severely injured, losing a leg and the use of his right hand. Back in the UK, he and his wife faced the daunting task of arranging personal support without knowing how to fund it.
That’s where I stepped in. The family reached out to Citizens Advice, and I eagerly took on the case. My first mission was to secure some income for him through PIP, as he was unable to work. Despite our best efforts, his initial application was denied. He felt betrayed by the country he had served so bravely. But we didn’t back down. We reapplied, only to be denied again. Determined, we took the fight to court.
In court, the judge quickly saw the truth. Within an hour, he ruled in our favour, acknowledging the soldier’s severe distress and granting him the PIP he deserved. Seeing the relief and gratitude on my client’s face was incredibly rewarding. He could now afford the care assistance he desperately needed.
